A year ago, Chicago based applicants for Adjustment of Status (for permanent resident, or “green card”, status) were waiting approximately 90 days for their interviews to be scheduled by U.S. Department of Homeland Security/Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Chicago office.  Now the wait time for interview is approximately 6-9 months.  According to Homeland Security officials I have spoken to, it’s not that there are so many more applications being filed, but instead  DHS/CIS resources and personnel are being allocated to other projects.  It is hoped, according to one official, that this wait time will be reduced in the coming 6-12 month period.

For applicants for citizenship, the wait time for interview continues to be approximately 4-5 months, with oath ceremonies for approved applicants being scheduled some 2-4 weeks thereafter.
